Ontario Tech’s Health Hubs
March 4, 2025
As students, both our physical and mental health and wellness play a key role in our ability to perform. Luckily for us, our campus offers students a medical clinic, pharmacy, and mental health services. Each of these provides us with the necessary tools to take control of our health and wellness and perform to the best of our abilities!

Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC)
The CHWC is our on-campus clinic located in Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC), room G1030. The clinic provides both Durham College and Ontario Tech students with access to medical professionals who can help with a variety of health needs. They conveniently offer daily walk-ins, but these tend to fill up fast. The best way to guarantee yourself a visit with a doctor, nurse, chiropractor, or physiotherapist is by booking an appointment. This can be done online, through email at chwc@durhamcollege.ca, or over the phone.
The clinic services both Durham College and Ontario Tech students, but some services are exclusive to Durham college. The following services are offered to Ontario Tech students:
- Immunizations and laboratory services
- International wellness checks for international students
- Physiotherapy and chiropractic care
- Physicians and nurses
- Sexual health resources and support
- Pharmacy services.
If you’re an Ontario Tech student looking for mental health support, it can be accessed through Student Mental Health Services (SMHS), located on the 3rd floor of Shawenjigewining Hall. You can learn more about SMHS in the next section of this blog!
Lovell Drugs is the on-campus pharmacy located within CHWC. Here, students can fill prescriptions with ease, purchase over-the-counter cold/flu medication, and more! They also offer services like private consultations and e-refills.
Things to note before you book:
It’s important to note that in order to book an appointment at the clinic as a domestic student, you need a valid OHIP card or another provincial health insurance plan. Ontario Tech also has a large international student community, who are also able to access clinic services! If you’re an international student, you are required to have coverage through the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP).

Student Mental Health Services
While CHWC provides mental health services to Durham College students, Ontario Tech offers them through SMHS. A Stepped Care model is used at SMHS, where students are provided with the lowest level of intervention needed to suit their needs. This approach allows mental health services to extend beyond counselling sessions to include peer support, self-help strategies, group programming, and workshops. SMHS also developed the MindSpark podcast, hosted by Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator Sylvia Rodriguez. Each episode focuses on a different mental health-related topic. It’s a great resource for any student interested in tips and tricks for nurturing mental wellness on their own time.
If you’re a student accessing SMHS for the first time and are in need of some guidance, you will first meet with a Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator. From there, you’ll be directed to the kind of support that will best meet your needs. Alternatively, if you find yourself in distress and need some immediate support, SMHS have drop-in sessions available. Whether you’re a student at the North campus or the Downtown campus, both in-person and online sessions are available Monday to Friday.
