Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Songs to Scream While Getting Ready for Galentine’s

February 14, 2022

Valentine’s is my favourite holiday of the year! The word is filled with love and happiness as we show those we care about how much they mean to us. In my life, I have never spent this holiday in the same way! Like many others, I have spent it working, going on a romantic date, spending it watching cheesy movies with my family, or with a group of friends on a night out on the town. The reason it remains my favourite time of the year is because there is no prescribed way of celebrating and there is always something new to do! This year, I have a date with my “10 Things I Hate About You” DVD and a tub of mint chocolate chip after my day of work.

This hour-long playlist works for all these different celebrations but especially for Galentine’s! For those who don’t know, Galentine’s is when a group of friends get together to celebrate their friendships. Don’t let the name fool you, this holiday is for everyone regardless of gender. Grab your closest friends, turn on this playlist, and party!
