Are you election ready?

October 11, 2019

The Federal Election is right around the corner! Are you ready? If not, here are a few useful pieces of information that can help.

All of the information provided is from Elections Canada.

When is it?

The Canadian Federal Election is on Monday, October 21, 2019.

Am I even eligible?

You only need to be a Canadian citizen and 18 years old or older. You do not need to register in advance to vote, but if you do register, you get a cool voter ID that tells you where and when you can vote. If you don't want to register in advance, you can register when you go to vote.

Okay… Where and when do I vote?

You can vote on election day, Monday, October 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m at your assigned polling station. If you do not know your assigned polling station, visit the Voter Information Service on the Elections Canada website.

But what if I am not free on October 21?

That is completely fine! The government provides other options for people who wish to do it on another day. You can vote:

Find your nearest Elections Canada office

  • At select campuses from Saturday, October 5 to 9.

Find the nearest Select Campus

  • By mail, but you have to register online or at any elections Canada office before Tuesday, October 15, 6 p.m.

Apply to vote by mail

What do I need when voting?

You just need your driver's license or any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address.

If you do not have that, you can either bring two IDs that have your name with at least one having your current address OR you can declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

Can I take a selfie with my ballot?

NO NO NO NO NO!

Taking a picture of yours- or someone else’s ballot IS ILLEGAL. It is also illegal to publish it on any social media.

Now that you know the details - mark your calendars, fasten your seat belt, and get ready to vote!
