Inspiration for Holiday Gifts

December 14, 2022

It's wonderful that the holiday season is approaching, but giving presents may be difficult when things become more expensive. If you don't have the money to buy a beautiful gift but still want to show your friend how much you value them, there are simple methods to accomplish this. I will discuss various cheaper gift options that I have used in the past that have been budget-friendly but still unique. I believe it's truly the thought that counts more than the value of the actual gift.

5 Sense Gift

What exactly is a five-sense gift? If you're still puzzled, here's a hint: think about your five senses, and then, as the name says, it's simply that. This gift idea consists of five items that appeal to each of the five senses: touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing. You must think it is ridiculously pricey since it is five presents rather than one, but I will give an example of gift ideas to show you how easy this may be. Furthermore, since this notion is unique, the person receiving the present may believe that they are receiving more gifts and that they put more money and time into the gift than you did.

Listening

  • Create a playlist, print the QR code if it's on Spotify, and present it to them.
  • Compose a voice memo, record a song, or even create a poem to express how much they mean to you.
  •  More costly gifts include purchasing a speaker, record player, records, headphones, CDs

Sight

  • Making or purchasing artwork for them
  • Bringing them to attend a movie or musical
  • Viewing the sunrise or sunset together
  • Booking a photoshoot together
  • Comprising a photo album of wonderful memories

Taste

  • Making their favourite food/ sweets
  • Taking them out to get food
  • Ordering food to their house
  • Making food together and having a baking date
  • Buying them a gift card to their favourite restaurant or somewhere new

Touch

  • Buying them a blanket, something soft or a cuddle toy
  • Buying them fidget toys
  • Going out for massages
  • Going out to get a manicure/ pedicure
  • Buying a new sports equipment
  • Buying clothing/ socks etc.

Smell

  • Buying a candle
  • Buying a diffuser
  • Buying lotions, body oil, body scrub
  • Buying perfume/ cologne

Open When

An open when present comprises various envelopes packed with letters and notes of feel-well messages, humorous memories, images, quotations, music lyrics, money, gift cards, and so on. Open when letters might be captioned, for example, "open when you're feeling down," "open when you miss me," "open when you're feeling overjoyed," and so on.

A Basket of Love

A basket of love is loaded with a wide range of items the recipient enjoys. There are many different types of baskets of love that you can create by collecting their favourite things, such as food, clothing, chocolates, chips, and other goodies. One example is a hot chocolate starter kit or cold day starter pack, which contains a variety of hot chocolate, a mug, marshmallows, and other goodies. Another example is a basket filled with homemade baked goods.

Recipe Box

Do you love baking or cooking, or have a collection of recipes you like? Instead of buying another cookbook, put together a box containing your favourite recipes, creations, and/or original dishes. These dishes might be linked to a certain emotion, such as dishes to eat on a rainy day, dishes to eat when you're short on time, baked goods to bake when you're feeling sad, etc.

365 Day Jar

I've made this before, and it always ends out so cute. This present consists of a jar with 365 notes, one for every day of the year, written on various coloured sheets and folded in a jar with various recollections, pick-up lines, songs, quotations, etc. There will be instructions and a colour-coded key on the jar that explains what each colour of paper represents. For instance, red sheets of notes can represent recollections, while blue notes might represent songs, etc.

Basket full of fun

Spending time with someone is often the best present you can give them. This basket can include food, paint, or a craft project so you can do it together and simply spend time talking. Another example would be a basket filled with baking materials, various recipes to test together, or even take-out boxes and movies to have a relaxed peaceful movie day together. However you decide to go about it, I'm sure the recipient will enjoy spending time with you.
