Netflix’s “You” Season Two recap: What in the WORLD

*SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED*

Here I highlight some of the most memorable moments from the You Season Two Finale with my own twist. If you haven’t watched it yet, then this post isn’t for you… but come back once you have because we need to talk about this.

Let's start off with a quick Season One recap before we dive into Season Two:

On December 26, 2019 Netflix released Season Two of the psychological thriller series You, which follows the main character, Joe Goldberg, as he moves to Los Angeles under a new identity: Will Bettelheim.

With a new love interest, Love. Yes, I still can’t believe that’s her name.

Candace’s reappearance as Amy definitely created a lot of turmoil in Joe’s life, but I felt like her character brought a lot of sanity to the show. She was the only one who really saw him for who he truly was and all the things he had done. More importantly, she was very level headed in knowing that his actions were wrong and harmful.

Since the show is narrated by Joe, we as the viewers get an insight into the way he thinks. One thing he does throughout the show is rationalize his harmful actions in a way that is convincing and almost makes you believe that he is right for doing them.

Nevertheless, I thought Candace was going to be the one. She was going to be the one to expose Joe and put him behind bars. In Episode 9, “P.I. Joe”, she gets far enough along to find Joe’s key to the storage unit where Delilah’s body is inside the glass cage. She then locks Joe in too, who is assumed to have killed Delilah.

Candace thought she’d call Love over to the storage unit to show her the proof of Joe’s insanity and reveal his true colours once and for all.

Upon arriving to the scene, Love swoops in and calls the police herself on Joe. 

Just kidding. That’s not what happens.

To our surprise she instead tells Candace to “Let him out of there”. Huh? She’s still on Joe’s side despite the gory scenery displayed in front of her?

But then things get weirder. Before Candace has the chance to do anything, Love “takes care of things”. 

RIP Candace.

Now the real kicker is, Joe assumes he killed Delilah, but he doesn’t actually remember doing it. At the beginning of the Season Finale, Love reveals that she killed Delilah because she was a threat to her happily ever after with Joe. I think she was expecting Joe to find this insanely romantic, but his reaction is priceless. He looks back at his equal, someone just as unstable as he is and he could not look more repulsed, it’s actually amusing.

Her list of people she has admittedly murdered up to this point is: 

• The Au Pair (which Forty, her brother thought he was responsible for), 
• Delilah 
• Candace

All of which Joe is kind of freaked out by (ironic I know). But Love calls him out, saying that “[he] saw what [he] wanted to see” and she was always this way he just never noticed. I guess you should’ve paid more attention, Joe.

Even better is when Love tells Joe that she is pregnant. Yes, pregnant.

I still can’t believe these two are going to have a baby. Anyway, the baby news somehow trumps all the bad and Joe is in love with her again. They attend her friend’s wedding and all is well.

That is until Forty finds out the truth about Joe’s past with Beck and fears that his sister is in grave danger. Not knowing that she already knows the truth and is just as messed up as Joe is. When he finds out that she already knew, he holds Joe at gunpoint.

This is it. This is where Joe dies. That’s what we’d expect, but nope, RIP Forty. Not at the hands of Joe or Love. But by a police officer which basically wipes Joe and Love’s crime streak clean and frees them from any suspicions. Unbelievable!

The episode ends with a flash forward to Love further along in her pregnancy as Joe and her move into a new home. Classic, happily ever after fairy tale ending, right?

Wrong. The last scene is of Joe spying on his new victim. His neighbour. This seriously gave me the chills.

I really enjoyed Season 2. It took a turn that I was not prepared for, but I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Joe and Love in Season 3.
