Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

How to prepare for a new semester

January 3, 2024

Organize Your Study Space

Start the semester off with an organized desk and study space. It’s much easier to find things and work in a tidy environment. This can also help avoid distractions and increase your focus on the task.

Organize/ Clear Your Laptop

Before the new semester, clear your laptop of any files that aren’t needed anymore and organize the ones that are into folders. This way, referring back to them will be quick and easy.

Download any Necessary Software

Download any software you may need throughout the semester. This will ensure that you are ready with any applications that may be necessary.

Find your Books

Save time during the semester by having your books ready. Refer to the list of materials recommended by your professor, or an alternate way to do this would be through Ontario Tech’s online bookstore. At the bottom of the website, you will find a place to type in your student ID, and a list of assigned resources for each course will appear.

De-clutter your Backpack

Refresh your backpack by replacing any unnecessary items with what you will require in the new semester. Utilizing a small accessory pouch is a great way to keep small things from getting lost in your bag.

Tip: For some added fun, buy new supplies to make it feel like the start of a new semester. Simple things such as new pencils, erasers, pens, and binders are enough to do the trick.

All the best in the new semester!
