Valentine's Day on a Budget
February 13, 2024
Valentine's Day! It's almost here, and that means it is time to express your love for your significant other, family, and friends. Even if you're single as a pringle, you can still enjoy yourself on Valentine's Day because you still have many people to love.
I remember when I was 11 years old, my Dad got me and my sister a card for Valentine's Day to express his love for us. It meant a lot to me, and I never forgot it. So Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a day only for people who are in relationships but can be for family and friends!
So how should you go about making this day special?
DIY Card/Gifts
When I think of ‘special’ I think of ‘handmade with love.’ Making 'Doing it Yourself' (DIY) gifts is so much fun and when people receive them, their hearts will surely be filled. Knowing that someone sat there for hours making something for them is a very special feeling that no amount of money can replace. Plus, it's a great option if money is tight and it will mean the world to someone.
To find some easy ones, I recommend searching TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube. Oftentimes, you just need some paper and you can print out pictures to make the cutest gift of all time.
Set up a Date
Another budget-friendly idea! Instead of going out for dinner and dessert, you can stay home with your loved one/friends and make cute heart-shaped cookies, cinnamon rolls, chocolate-covered strawberries, etc. Getting a few supplies together and having a nice setup will show that you put thought and care into this date. Sometimes, spending a lot of money isn't always the best option. 🙂
Love Letters
Love letters are such a meaningful way of expressing love. Sometimes, it's hard to say how much you love and appreciate someone to their face, but sitting down and really thinking about how your loved one, family, or friend makes you feel, will get your emotions flowing. I guarantee you will be able to write a heartfelt letter that makes the other person burst with happiness. Some ideas are to start with why you love this person ( what qualities they have/how they make you feel), then start talking about your favourite memories, and finish with how much you appreciate them. It doesn’t have to be structured like that! Just do whatever feels right when you are writing.
Exchange Gifts
Gift-giving is often associated with Valentine's Day and can be a great way to express your love. Try getting things that the other person wants/needs. Giving someone something they just mentioned makes them feel so special because it shows that you have been listening to them. These gifts don't have to be expensive. It could be a bag filled with their favourite chocolates, a love letter/DIY card, and a small gift like a gift card.
Spa Day at Home
Spas can be expensive, but setting one up at home can be a much richer experience. You can give each other massages, do facials, and simply relax together. This isn't that hard to do, oftentimes we have a bunch of skincare stuff at our fingertips, so just get creative with it! Whip out a candle and play some relaxing music. You won't even be able to tell it's an at-home spa!
Plan a Dinner Date
This one is a basic but must-do. You can spice it up by cooking a special meal together at home or making reservations at a nice restaurant. Set the mood with candles, soft music, and maybe even some flowers.
I hope you guys have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Remember, you can celebrate with everyone you love and care about; your family, friends, and significant other.
