TikTok made me listen to it

January 29, 2021

Ever watch a Tiktok and instantly feel the urge to find the song on YouTube to listen to on repeat? You are not alone! I have dedicated this playlist entirely to the music that I found on TikTok ranging from different songs to small creators advertising their music. The playlist I have created below has music from Summer 2020-now with approximately 84 minutes (I almost failed stats so don’t quote me on that!) with a heavy pop-punk-early 2000s vibe and a dash of absolutely trash music that is super catchy that it needed to be included!

Are You Bored Yet? - Wallows feat. Clairo - 2:58

The song’s lyrics describe exactly how I was feeling without making it sound angsty, plus it has an uplifting almost cheerful soundtrack.

Manic - Conan Gray - 3:06

The chorus of this song has led to many scream-singing in my house and just demands to be enjoyed, I highly recommend it for the days you are feeling unmotivated.

Make You Mine - PUBLIC - 3:54

Every time I listen to this song it gives me such a warm feeling with its wholesome lyrics; a great addition to any good feels playlist.

WITHOUT YOU - The Kid LAROI – 2:41

There is one line in the song that hits every time I hear it; trust me when you listen you will know the one it is.

Line Without a Hook - Ricky Montgomery - 4:10

This man really said “oh my emotions, feel like explosions” and everyone felt it. I love how the artist acknowledges their feelings and taps into a part of me; music is all how it makes you feel and I completely understand Montgomery's message.

Jenny (I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship) - Studio Killers - 3:36

As someone who identifies as LGBTQ+, I don’t listen to nearly enough queer music. The artist speaks of a common experience with those first coming out where they fall in love with their best friend and I relate.

Olivia - One Direction - 2:58

When I found this song on TikTok, I didn’t realize this was a song by One Direction. It was part of a trend where people would dress like the women in famous songs. Those who completed the challenge described Olivia as a cottagecore person who was whimsical and full of life; that is exactly what this song feels like.

Art Hoe - Call Me Karizma - 3:14

This song makes me want to spend my days in a coffee shop waiting for a hot-headed beautiful girl to paint me for her OCAD portfolio submission who will eventually break my heart.

E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE - CORPSE, Savage Ga$p- 1:46

2020 has been the year in which people all over the internet have discovered the YouTuber Corpse Husband who is known for his deep voice and that one video of his hand. E-Girls have also grown in popularity with the TikTok app as everyone is discovering new aesthetics.

i don’t really like your boyfriend - Avenue Beat - 2:43

Listening to F2020 by the same band lead me down a rabbit hole of listening to their whole discography. It has the same vibe as F2020 but more slowed down.

feel something - Bea Miller - 3:01

As you might have noticed, I chose the music I listen to by the way it makes me feel or how it might validate these emotions. Miller’s song talks about being caught in this cycle of feeling numb and it has me all in my feels especially in the line, same as the title, “I just wanna feel something, I just wanna feel”.

Electric Love - BØRNS - 3:41

The ultimate good feels hype music and easily makes my top 5 of best songs of my lifetime. No matter what mood I am in, this song instantly makes me feel better.

Boss Bitch - Doja Cat - 2:15

With the increased popularity of Tiktok, Doja Cat has been given the recognition she deserves and I recommend all of her music but this is the one that started my obsession. Try listening to this song when you are getting dressed for the day and trust me, it will change the whole experience.

You’re Such A - Haliee Steinfeld -3:37

Released in 2016, You’re Such A got a new set of listeners because of the dance trend that was attached to it. For myself, hearing it on my FYP threw me back to High School and hearing it for the first time.

Body Terror Song-  AJJ - 2:38

I don’t know why but some Gen Z members started saying they never asked to be born and this song embodies that.

Sweater Weather - The Neighbourhood - 4:01

The bisexual anthem that finds its way into our heads every fall now lives year-round on Tiktok. It is known to shape the FYP you need to like videos in order to find your side of TikTok, Bisexual and Pansexual folks were using this song to find one another on the app.

cotton candy - YUNGBLUD - 2:48

Yungblud has this way of really understanding how Zoomers feel and the kind of music they want to hear. This is one of many songs that have popped off on Tiktok.

2 Phút Hơn KAIZ Remix - Pháo, KAIZ - 3:42

A part of the song went viral but I love this song especially for studying. As K-Pop has hit the mainstream, I am hoping that other international hits such as this one find other’s playlists.

Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell - Das Racist & Heems - 2:59

As an ex-Taco Bell employee, this song instantly caught my attention. With its upbeat soundtrack and simplistic lyrics, it is really catchy with no real message.

Wobble (Radio Version) - V.I.C - 5:22

Originally released back in 2008, this song found itself growing in popularity like many other songs on this list by having one iconic line that was turned into a sound that has been collectively used 30.5k at the time of writing this article.

I Hope - Gabby Barrett - 3:31

I am not a country fan but this gives me Kelly Clarkson vibes with a sprinkle of Miley Cyrus vocals. Who doesn’t love a country revenge song with a female power vocalist?

Hopelessly Devoted To You - Olivia Newton-John - 3:06

Olivia Newton-John will never not slap and the new generation on TikTok knows this. The whole Grease soundtrack has found its way onto Tiktok but this has hands down been my favourite as the trend attached is folks skateboarding while singing into the camera; what is there not to love?

Blood // Water - grandson - 3:00

#MomThisIsntAPhase This song reminds me of the emo/ pop punk phase I always wanted to go through but never had the guts to. I highly recommend playing this song while you are in the final hours before an assignment is due as it has helped motivate me to finish many assignments (including this article).

Room - Chaz Cardigan - 2:59

This song reminds me of being a lovestruck teenager who got broken up with for the first time and thought the world was going to end. I’m an adult who has been through many break-ups and lost love but this song brings those feelings back in a good nostalgic way.

Girls In Bikinis - Poppy - 2:25

I can’t tell you the shock I felt when I realized the artist of this song was Poppy of all people. As the title suggests, this song was used for a trend of beautiful women in bikinis on roller skates and I am here for it! Tiktok is definitely a platform currently used by the body positivity movement and that brings joy to my heart.
