Scrapbooking 101: Starting as a Beginner

April 8, 2026

I’ve always thought scrapbooking was such a cute idea, but I never actually tried it until recently. It felt like one of those things that looks easy… until you sit down and don’t know where to start.

So if you’re like me and want to get into scrapbooking but feel a little lost, here are some beginner steps that helped me actually get into it without overthinking everything.

Start Simple (Don’t Overdo It)

The biggest mistake I almost made was thinking I needed a bunch of supplies right away.

You really don’t.

All you need to start is:

  • A notebook or scrapbook
  • Glue or tape
  • Some photos
  • A pen

That’s it. Everything else is extra.

Print Your Photos (Finally Use Them!!)

I realized I have so many pictures on my phone that I never look at again.

Scrapbooking gave me a reason to print them out and actually do something with them.

Pick a Theme (But Keep It Chill)

At first, I didn’t know what to scrapbook about, which sounds silly, but it makes a difference.

Some easy ideas:

  • A trip or vacation
  • A semester at school
  • Friend memories
  • Random life moments

Add Small Details Over Time

Once you get into it, you’ll naturally start adding more:

  • Stickers
  • Washi tape
  • Colored pens
  • Little notes or captions

But you don’t need to buy everything at once.

It’s Actually Really Relaxing

I didn’t expect this, but scrapbooking is lowkey therapeutic.

It’s one of those things you can do while listening to a podcast, watching a show, or just unwinding after a long day.

Especially as a student, it’s nice to have something creative that isn’t stressful!

Happy scarpbooking!! :D
