How to Make Time For The Things You Love
April 10, 2026
I used to say “I don’t have time” for everything I loved. Especially once I started placement and when I was swamped in school. And for a while, I believed it. School gets busy. Life gets busy. There’s always something due, somewhere to be, something that feels more important in the moment.
But at some point, I realized something kind of uncomfortable. It wasn’t always that I didn’t have time. It was that I wasn’t making time, and that shift changed everything for me. Because the truth is, if something matters to you, it deserves a place in your life. Not just when you’re free, but even when you’re busy. I’m not saying suddenly wake up at 5 am and become a completely different person. I’m talking about small, realistic changes that actually fit into your life.
One thing that helped me a lot was being honest about my time. I started noticing how much time I was spending on things that didn’t really add anything to my day. Scrolling. Watching random videos. Saying yes to things I didn’t even want to do. When I cut back on even a little of that, I found pockets of time I didn’t think I had.
Another thing is starting small and making to-do lists so that you will be able to allot your time. You don’t need two hours to do something you love. You don’t even need one hour. Sometimes 15 to 20 minutes is enough. Reading a few pages. Going for a short walk. Doing a quick workout. Those small moments add up way more than waiting for the “perfect time” that never comes.
And I think something people don’t talk about enough is that rest is productive too! Doing things you love isn’t a waste of time. It’s what keeps you from burning out. It’s what helps you show up better in everything else you have to do.
If anything, making time for yourself makes you more focused, more energized, and honestly just happier.
So moral of the story, make time for the things you love the biggest way that I do that is by making to-do lists and cutting out things that don't matter, like scrolling on my phone.
