Trying to Make Budget-Friendly Coffee Drinks at Home

September 30, 2025

Lately I have been spending a lot of money on fancy coffee drinks and I blame my friends for getting me into it 🙄🙄 So after I spent a good amount of money on buying all those drinks, I decided that I should learn how to make some of these on a budget so let me share some recpies I have been trying and then I'll rate it for you guys!

Firstly:

Use What You Have

I don’t own an espresso machine. Instead, I use instant coffee: 1 teaspoon of coffee mixed with 3 tablespoons of hot water. It makes a decent, concentrated coffee shot that works well as an espresso substitute. It's strong, quick, and does the job.

Secondly: To make things cute and aesthetic, I got these cups from Marshalls that have glass straws, so it makes you feel boujee and like you got it from a cafe lol!

Here are some from Amazon

1. Iced Caramel Macchiato

I’m a caramel macchiato lover, so that was my first experiment.

Here’s how I make it:

  • 1.5 cups milk

  • 2 tbsp vanilla syrup (I bought one from Marashalls for $6!)

  • 1 espresso shot (my DIY coffee mix)

  • Caramel drizzle on top and the side of the cup (optional but worth it because it makes it look cute)

I love this, it tastes just like an Iced Caramel Macchiato you could get from a cafe.

⭐9.5/10

2. Vanilla Latte

Same as the Caramel Macchiato, just skip the caramel! Sweet and simple.

⭐9/10

I like it sweet, but honestly, for people who don't like it as sweet, this one is good!

3. Iced Mocha

  • 1.5 cups milk

  • 1–2 tbsp chocolate syrup

  • 1 espresso shot  (my DIY coffee mix)

  • Ice

  • Optional: whipped cream + chocolate drizzle

Stir the chocolate syrup with the coffee first, then pour it over milk and ice.

⭐7/10 not sweet enough for me, and the cocoa is a little strong. I'm thinking next time I'll add some Nutella, I bet that would make it taste good!

  • 1 espresso shot (coffee mix)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Shake coffee, sugar, and cinnamon with ice. Pour over milk.

⭐7/10 doesn't have that strong a flavour but still good!
